It is known as your ‘crowning glory’ and on your wedding day this is exactly what your hair should be. Finding the perfect wedding dress is one thing, and finding the perfect hairstyle another. You want to look your best and this article will help you decide what will work best for you.

There are just a few simple steps to follow to ensure that your wedding day hairstyle is exactly as you want it, whether you wear it straight, curly, up, or down. Let’s have a look at a few of them below:

Page through bridal books and magazines to find a picture of the hairstyle that you would like. Having a picture to show your hairstylist is the best way to communicate exactly what style you want.

It is highly recommended that you book a trial appointment, for at least a week or two before the wedding, where you and the hairstylist can discuss your options. Important elements to consider are: what sorts of styles will suit your hair length, type and texture; what your colour options are; will hair extensions be necessary to achieve the style you want; and very importantly, confirm how long your hair appointment will be, as you don’t want to be late for your own wedding because you were held up in the salon.

Take your accessories into consideration when deciding on a style. If you are wearing a beautiful necklace or pair of earrings an up-style will show these off to perfection. When you go for your trial appointment take your tiara or veil along with you so that these can be incorporated into your hairstyle.

Match your hairstyle to your wedding theme. An elegant wedding deserves elegant hair - like an elaborate up-style accented with hair jewellery. A more casual affair calls for a less formal, though equally stunning hairstyle such as chic, glossy curls.

Flowers in the hair are always a popular option among brides. Be sure to let your stylist know what colour and sort of flowers you will be having in your hair so that you can discuss what hair colour would compliment your flower choice, if you decide to tint or highlight your hair for your big day.
Remember that it is not just the front of your hair that will be on view. The back and sides of your hairstyle need to look just as good as the front does.

Your hairstyle, very importantly, needs to be weatherproof. It is not uncommon for the wind to pick up unexpectedly in Cape Town or Port Elizabeth, or for a sudden afternoon storm to appear on the highveld. Ensure that your hairstyle is suited to the location and the season in which your wedding takes place.

Last and probably most importantly, is to let your stylist know if you don’t like what he or she has suggested or the way something is done. This is your big day and your hair should look exactly as you want it to.
